Top 10 Reasons Why MLB Sucks

With no salary cap Major League Baseball has let a whiny bunch of babies be the face of the organization. Contemporary craziness is Pete Rose betting on baseball, strikes, and now the “roid rage.” There are just too many factors to list! It just well…sucks! The game has been tarnished in so many ways. There are fewer African-American playing the game of baseball today then in the 70’s. So how does pitching get back to where it was..Let’s start a couple more expansion teams..that will fix it. At least Jeff Gordon’s helmet size didn’t grow two sizes in a single season.

#2 The Designated Hitter

The designated hitter was devised in 1979 by the American League to up attendance and run production…blah..blah..blah. These types of players survive their MLB bootcamp with Kansas City or the Reds and then after those teams can no longer afford them they have them well groomed for the “big money franchises.” The rich get richer, the poor keep calling up rookies!

#3 George Steinbrenner

Don’t get me started on this figure. Even the struggling Reds lost Ken Griffey Jr., no he is not a franchise player for Cincinnati. I like the commentary, but it isn’t exciting television. He put up Hall of Fame numbers while in Seattle. Where did these types of pitchers go? The intimidators, not on roids –I might add –where are they in the league. Ole’ George will do whatever it takes to win because he loses so grasiously. Baseball hasn’t been able to appeal to elite African-American atheletes. The small market teams will never hold onto a franchise player, and this hurts the fanbase. This of course helps prepare them for free agency. They also forgot that it took away some fundamental aspects of managing. I know the revenue sharing scam that MLB has put into place to hush up the small teams enough for them to keep a star of two, but this is out of control what these players make. League expansion is a cluster of uncanny proportions. Hitters have developed, even without the use of human growth hormones, the art of hitting a round ball with a round stick squarely has become a science. The problems are many for this little pickle the MLB has put itself in. There isn’t a whole lot more coaches can do to teach players to throw 100 mph. Baseball has a unique dynamic that is referred to as chemistry, and it isn’t for sale!

#1 Loss of the Inner City Development

Just when you thought I had nothing intelligent to say: The main reason that Major League Baseball is below average is because the inner cities do not produce baseball players like they have in the past. You can find it the dictionary, but don’t look for it MLB clubhouses. To me that is a player that should get to stay wherever he wants, and the MLB market should be to a point that some salary could be eatin’ by the Reds to ensure the Hall of Famer goes out exactly as he wanted to go. MLB has been slow to move on this, but some initiatives are starting to funnel money back into developing solid inner city youth baseball programs. Now we have records that are going to have undeniable question marks beside them. The only thing that makes it bearable for a fan is they are in third place, and they haven’t had a World Series monopoly. Too many prospects are being forced up too early. It’s a joke that MLB pulled in order to do away with having pitchers go to the plate and flail out the ball in crucial parts of the game. He has publicity stunts that take the focus off the game, and puts on a show for our young adoring fans about the urgency to win, and gives them a seminar on the art of whining about losing. But somewhere between being a kid that loves the game and being an adult who gets paid to play the game a transformation happens. For a purist of the game the DH opened a window for a single tool baseball player to make it to the bigs.

#8 No Salary Cap

This is a problem. Granted there are some hard nosed athletes which could be considered baseball purist still around, but the Mark Graces of the World are few and far between.

#4 Free Agency and the Death of the Franchise Player

Free agency is a curse! This has destroyed the franchise player. . It let’s good hitter loose empasis on defense, and it takes away from the original nature of the game. They give the poor kid a cap and a prayer and send him out there to compete. Here are my top reasons why…

#7 No Parity in the League

Parity is defined as:equality, as in amount, status, or character.

#10-The players are overpaid. But without a doubt he wanted to be a Red, even though they were horrible. I am a teacher of the game at many different levels. Pitching is usually something you have that is innate and polished, hitting can be developed and is so more effectively in all the ametuer ranks of baseball.

#5 Boring Commentary

The T.V. Spice it up a little bit, if Golf can up their ratings due to Tiger and a few dicy commentators..what is MLB or the broadcast networks doing to change it up?

It all goes to say, baseball has lost the interest of the African-American community. ratings are falling because people would rather watch people drive around in a circle at high rates of speed then listen to another has-been drooling all over the microphone about baseball. The already thin pitching talent being spread across the league to play in empty stadiums. Your best 9 against my best 9, everybody hits!

Counting Down the Downfall of Baseball

I am a baseball fan first and foremost.

#9 Too Many Tampered Seasons

This blemish dates all the way back to the Sox throwing the World Series. And the small teams get hit the hardest..these teams survive by calling up the next great hope from AA or AAA to fill a gap. This is the shoot’em up Nintendo generation here that we are trying to interest in our beloved sport. The purity of the sport is not represented at the Major League level. Or heaven forbid, my favorite argument, a picher that might be able to hit (Babe Ruth ring a bell). I love the game. Too much controversey for the fair weather fan, they are probably Nascar fans now. The Yankees payroll is out of control! Lucky for us the remaining fans that talent and money doesn’t always win championships. The free agent market paired with large market clubs will snuff out any such chances of restoring that to baseball. Pitching is relatively the same. Maybe the other 9 reasons the MLB sucks has something to do with it!

#6 Pitching

Now that Nolan and the Goose have hung up their cleats who is left to make these lumber lugging neanderthals look retarded at the plate. But no the franchise players are as dead as the suicide squeeze in the MLB. Maybe its boring, maybe there are no role models, maybe they have no place to play? For whatever reason there has been a lost link, and it shows. He is the anti-christ of the purist movement. The double switch, the bunt, and the art of the pitcher moving a runner over. This is what happens without a salary cap. The head of the Yankee player monopoly will pout until he wins another World Series

Understanding Football – A beginner’s guide

Some of the most important rules are as follows:

· Touching the ball with hands when passed to by a teammate (kick, head or throw)

The game lasts for 90 minutes, being split in the middle for a break. The winner of the game is the team the scores the most goals. The football should be made of leather and should be between 410g and 450g in weight. A yellow card; which represents a warning to the player, and a red card; (usually issued after a warning) which sends the player off the game. The player taking the throw must be off the pitch and must keep his feet firmly on the floor. Each team will defend one side of the pitch, while attaching the other. There is often additional playing time at the end of the game called ‘stoppage time’ where minutes wasted during the actual game due to injuries or other unforced events can be replayed.

· Spitting at a player

Each team can use only their legs, feet or head to move the ball across the field and force it into the net. This could be from a foul or from the ball going outside the dimensions of the pitch. If the free kick is inside the penalty area (known as a penalty) all opponents apart from the goal keeper must be outside the area.

· Spitting at an opponent

Free Kicks (and Penalty):

· Being guilty of a serious foul play or violent act

The ball is only declared out of play if the referee stops the game. The ball is kicked from anywhere within the six yard box by any member of the defending team.

When a player kicks the ball of the pitch; the opposition gets to throw the ball back onto the pitch. The football pitch should be between 45m and 90m wide. No player can use their hands to move the ball except the Goalkeeper. This means one team will be down to ten men. During the half time break the players will relax for around fifteen minutes and eat oranges while getting a briefing from their manager before switching sides, and defending / attacking the other side of the pitch for the remainder of the game. Etc.

· Being unsporting, or rude behaviour

· Striking, Holding or Pushing an opponent

The Corner Kick:

· Receiving two Yellow Cards

Fouls:

· Entering or exiting the play without permission

There are many rules that affect the cause of play, if a player breaks the rules he is seen as committing a foul. A foul can result in two cards being shown if the foul is serious enough.

A kick off is taken place from the central line, when a team score a goal, the opposite team gets to kick off from the central line. The kick is taken from the corner of the pitch and opponents must stay 10 yards away until the kick is taken. If they commit these fouls they will give a free kick to the opposition or if it’s in the penalty box a penalty.

Basic Rules:

The football pitch should be between 90m and 120m long. The goalkeeper cannot receive the ball directly with his hands.

The referee may show a red card for:

· Plays Dangerously

An indirect free kick may be awarded if a non active player:

· Prevents a goalkeeper from releasing the ball

· Using your hand on the ball (deliberately)

The corner kick is taken when the ball crosses the goal line, but doesn’t enter the goal and is last touched by a member of the defending team. No additional player can replace this thrown off player.

· Using hands intentionally to stop a goal

· Not standing back enough when opposition is releasing the ball into play

· Tackling an opponent when they don’t have the ball

. Opponents are to be at least 10 yards away. offences) that players can commit. Each game should be made up of two halves of 45minutes.

· Persistently breaking the rules

If the player in question is actually level with the last opponent, however, then they are not in an offside position.

· Kicking, Tripping, Jumping or Charging at an Opponent

· Delaying the restart of play

The referee may show a yellow card for:

A player is classified as Offside when they are in the attacking half of the pitch and nearer the goal line then the last defender from the opposition when receiving the ball

The goal kick is taken when the ball crosses the goal line, but doesn’t enter the goal. Each team has one Goal keeper whose sole purpose is to defend the opposite team from attaching; he can use his hands to defend any ball inside the Penalty area.

The object of the game is for one team, (each consisting of 11 players) to kick the football into the goal on the opposite side of the pitch. The team that kicks off to start the match is decided by a coin toss.

A goal keeper can commit a foul by committing the following offences:

· Controlling the ball with hands for over 6 seconds (including touch and release)

Throw in:

The Goal Kick:

Free kicks are given for certain offences. A direct free kick is allowed to score; an indirect free kick has to touch another player first.

· Obstructs an opponent

The following are some examples of fouls (a.k.a. Each team should have a maximum of 11 players of a field (and a minimum of 7) and there can be a maximum of three substitutions per game

Rocky Marciano – InfoBarrel

He even had a role in a movie. She smoked too, and developed a glandular problem. He even used a coat hanger to stuff money inside curtain rods.

Rocky was generous with people who were down and out, often giving them unsecured loans that were rarely paid back. Yet he used a wire to try to get coins back he used to make telephone calls. Augustine before defending his title, and said: “The biggest thrill I could think of would be an audience with the pope?”

Rocky’s last big payday was a computerized fight with Muhammed Ali in 1969. Rocky was a brawler. Yet even after he had enough money Rocky went after more. Rocco was in his twenties, when most fighters hit their peak. The pilot had not flown at night before, became confused by the bad weather, and attempted to land in a field rather than the Newton airport.

Perhaps it was his simplicity that allowed him to retire after beating everyone worth fighting. Rocky Marciano was champion.

Rocky was an old school Catholic. Marciano’s body was found pinned beneath the wreckage. The champion was Jersey Joe Walcott, a ring veteran most experts picked to beat Marciano easily. He was famous, successful, and well thought of.

He rarely saw his wife and children; or his parents, brothers, and sisters. The famous sportswriter Jimmy Cannon observed that Marciano trained “like a man practicing a holy ritual.” Before fights he would slip away to a church or chapel to pray. There was bad weather and the plane ran low on gas. The sparring film would be spliced together to match the computer outcome of the fight – a closely guarded secret that would not be revealed until “The Superfight” aired in theaters.

Outwardly Marciano’s life after boxing was quite successful – unlike many fighters, he kept his money and his wits. He didn’t trust lawyers or accountants, and preferred to deal in cash. Sometimes he would cover his chin and hands with St. He was undersized for a heavyweight. He made sure the people who invited him paid for everything.

The answer: Rocky Marciano, heavyweight boxing champion from 1952 to 1956, when at age thirty-three he retired with a perfect record (49-0, with 43 knockouts). Or the estrangement may have developed over Rocky’s running, which may have sprung from a preoccupation with money.

Marciano’s character was on display in his first fight with Walcott, which was a classic. Rocco slept in the living room with the windows open, even in the winter, as if in defiance of his bout with pneumonia.

After knocking out an old Joe Louis, Rocky got a title shot. She and her friends prayed the Rosary at the child’s bedside and waited. Marciano stepped inside and beat Walcott to the punch with a short right hand that traveled maybe eight inches. Rocky hadn’t fought or trained for fourteen years. Then Rocky and Ali sparred 70 rounds for the camera, simulating different endings to the fight. One sportswriter said Marciano brought the “austere, sackcloth-and -ashes approach of a monk” to his training. There would be good food, a nice check for a few words, and still enough time to fly back for his birthday. At the time boxing was a diversion, a way to make a few bucks to help out his family. Once he hit a man so hard he almost killed him. And he could be incredibly tight with a buck. He backed Walcott into the ropes. The people of the world should be informed of this boy’s character and personality.”

After serving as a GI in World War II, Rocco played minor league baseball. Jude’s oil while in his corner waiting for the start of that fight.

Maybe Rocky ran to avoid an estranged relationship with Barbara. A few minutes later she came out complaining: “What is he, crazy? He didn’t want anything to do with me.” Marciano seemed more comfortable in the company of clergy than actresses. After the Rock retired he kept running.

In 1976 Sylvester Stallone began his “Rocky” franchise. He golfed with priests, helped promote parish functions, even lunched with Cardinal Spellman. Life magazine called him “pure of speech” and “a clean living boy.” He was elsewhere described as “astonishingly innocent,” and “totally without deception, totally without guile.” He didn’t drink or smoke; in fact, when a host at a party for Marciano in Brockton offered the champ a drink, Rocky replied, “If you don’t mind, I’ll take an apple.”

Five months after Marciano’s death “The Superfight” debuted in theaters. The nicest thing about being champ, he said, “is that people like you.”  Everyone but boxing experts, who found Rocky’s style too crude to suffer. At the last minute Rocky decided to squeeze in an appearance at a steak house in Des Moines, Iowa. Rocco inherited his father’s toughness, for he survived a deadly bout of pneumonia when he was two. Walcott’s experience kept Marciano off-balance and sometimes made him look ridiculous. He was a near-classic example of the triumph of classic virtues (Boston Herald Traveler, September, 1969).”

His upbringing was steeped in Italian customs and traditions. Anthony for her son’s recovery, promising to give up her diamond engagement ring if Rocco recovered. He boarded a small, single engine Cessna. Although he left thousands (some claim hundred of thousands) of dollars stashed away or buried underground, none of it was found to aid Barbara and the children, who were impoverished after Rocky’s death.

Rocky ran from an early age. He would interrupt his training schedule to attend Mass. Ali was in retirement too, after having his title stripped for refusing the draft. Once, as a joke, the reigning sex symbol, Jayne Mansfield, was smuggled into a room where Marciano sat, alone. Rocky seemed too busy to be home.

Everett M. Equally unique, Marciano never came out of retirement to challenge subsequent champions, a temptation very few ex-champions have overcome, much less succeeded at.

* * *

Lena prayed to St. At the time many children died of pneumonia, but Rocco eventually recovered, and Lena kept her promise.

He was born Rocco Francis Marchegiano (Mark a-jahn-o) on September 1, 1923, the second son (the first died shortly after childbirth) of Pierino and Lena Marchegiano, first generation Italian immigrants who came to America after the first World War. His fanaticism about physical conditioning,  along with his determination and punching power, led to an unequalled record for a heavyweight champion: forty-nine professional wins, no defeats, forty-three victories by knockout. The Marchegiano’s had five more children after Rocco: Alice, Connie, Elizabeth, Louis, and Peter. Walcott bounced off and threw a hard left hand. The pilot and his two passengers were instantly killed. When he wasn’t playing sports he was running and exercising.

Not that there is anything particularly Catholic about being a teetotaler.  It’s just that Marciano, though intelligent, was a very simple man who never forgot where he came from. Ali complained about his ‘loss’, alleging the computer was made in Alabama.

. Before the fight Marciano met with a priest, who after their meeting said: “That boy is no ordinary prizefighter, he is one of the most dignified, straightforward people I have ever met in my life. His parents loved opera, ate Italian food, and had wine with dinner. Stallone credited Chuck Wepner’s losing effort in a fight with Muhammed Ali as the inspiration for the film, yet the similarities of Rocky Balboa to Rocky Marciano are numerous and obvious.

The doctor was wrong. Barbara missed Rocky, and drank too much. Pierino’s exposure to mustard gas during combat changed his life, but not his toughness. His friends said the only thing Rocky was afraid of was being poor. It was an incredible run. He was invited to the White House to meet the President. Several opponents quit boxing after being knocked out by Marciano. Rocky always apologized, but the fouling continued.

“In this age of the anti-hero and the non-hero, Rocky Marciano was the hero with whom the mass of Americans could readily identify, the hero who surmounted all difficulties by dint of hard work, dedication and perseverance. Asked about his reaction when flying shrapnel hit his jaw and snapped off some teeth, Pierino replied, “I just spit them out and kept coming.”

On August 31, 1969, Marciano planned to interrupt his business circuit and fly back to Florida to celebrate his forty-sixth birthday with his family. He  hit his opponents on the break, after the bell, and below the belt. The man recovered, but never fought again.

(An experiment was performed on Rocky’s punching power. Yet his retirement years revealed a man who seemed simple, but often was not.

Marchegiano went to New York and met Al Weill, a boxing manager who tried to Americanize his name. He would never be a classic boxer, but he worked unceasingly at improving his craft, and trained relentlessly. Rocky didn’t trust banks, either, so he hid his cash: in the ground, inside toilet tanks, in light fixtures. Although he enjoyed being champion, Marciano remained unchanged. It hit Walcott’s jaw with the sound of a baseball bat. Marciano went back into training and bought a toupee. The pilot landed the plane in a field in Newton, Iowa, and rammed into a lone tree in the middle of the field. Rocky slowly became a better boxer, but it was his punching power that kept him undefeated. As a boy Rocco was preoccupied with his physical condition. His wife, Barbara, was unable to have the large family Rocky wanted. The 1963 issue of Boxing Illustrated claimed: “Marciano’s knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armour-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground.”  Although this sort of ‘science’ was probably conducted by zealous Marciano fans, it is undeniably true that Rocky hit really hard.)

Far behind on points late in the fight, Rocky needed a knockout to win. Rocky never wrote anything down, he tried to keep track of his loans in his head, and sometimes forgot who owed him, and how much. The computer’s result: Marciano knocked out Ali in the thirteenth round. Rocco refused but eventually he tired of having his name misspelled and mispronounced, and allowed his name to be shortened to Rocky Marciano. Rocco’s biggest limitation was arms so short they were almost stubby. On those occasions Rocco reached opponents with his right hand, however, they fell down and didn’t get up.

While sportswriters criticized Marciano’s boxing shortcomings, no one criticized his character, as the following quotes show:

Marciano was “a kind and decent man.”, He was “inherently a decent, righteous and truly wonderful guy…His innate decency and wholesomeness shine through in a dedicated glow.” Or: “We never cease to be amazed at the humility of Rocky Marciano…he treats everyone if they were the celebrity and he the awed little guy.” Another writer called him “probably the humblest of heavyweight champions.”  Said another: “He reminds you of a great, friendly collie …with the grin of a shy fellow happy to be recognized, at last, as a member of the gang in good standing.” He was “the gentlest athlete I have ever known,” and again: “a man of simplicity and sincerity.”

He and Lena settled in Brockton, a small city twenty miles south of Boston. Rocky kept coming, even after Walcott knocked him down, closed his left eye, and opened cuts on his face that required fourteen stitches to close.

Marciano’s determination in the Walcott fight showed the world the new champion’s character and personality. And Brockton loved him right back, at least in part because many of them became rich betting on Rocky’s fights.

Marciano died without a will. His marriage was strained. He retained his public life, crisscrossing across the country to give speeches, participate in benefits, and conduct business. He was awkward in the ring. Skehan, Rocky Marciano, Biography of a First Son, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, 1977.

As he continued to successfully defend his title, Marciano gradually drew respect from critics. He knocked out nine of his early opponents in the first round. They had one daughter, but Barbara miscarried when Rocky was away, and wasn’t able to have any more children, although the two did adopt a boy (Rocky Jr.). New gambling record: Betting on outcome of Brexit vote

Ladbrokes has seen a tenfold increase in recent years.

Betfair, bookmakers Ladbrokes and Paddy Power and the Betting Research Unit at Nottingham Business School all estimate that the total value of bets on the vote placed in Britain will reach, and likely exceed, 100 million pounds.

LONDON — As if the stakes were not high enough in Britain’s nail-biting vote this week, people are betting record amounts of money on its outcome.

“This is comfortably the biggest political betting event in history and dwarves both the general election and the Scottish referendum,” says Lewis Davey, spokesman for Paddy Power, referring to the Scottish vote on independence last year.

The bookies’ odds have largely been in synch with global financial markets. It has become increasingly popular, particularly to bet on financial markets.

Betting on political events used to be a niche area in the gambling industry but has become more widespread, particularly in Britain. He was back in the betting shop this week to place additional wagers on behalf of three American friends.

“This is a historical event, and I want to take part in it,” said Can Zhao, an investment researcher who last week placed a 135-pound ($198) bet on “remain” at a Ladbrokes betting parlor near London’s Kings Cross train station.

Thursday’s vote on whether to leave the European Union, which will have lasting consequences for the country and Europe, is due to break the record as the most bet-upon political event in Britain’s history. referendum betting already hit a record for a political event days ago for Betfair, bookmaker BetFred and IG, the largest provider of spread betting services.

Betting exchange Betfair says it had taken 45.8 million pounds in wagers on the E.U. He intends to vote to leave the E.U., but has placed bets on “remain” to at least get something in case of his side’s defeat.

“If we are going to remain in the E.U., at least I will take compensation,” said Jones, who expects to get 3,000 pounds back in profit in such an event. The industry is expecting 100 million pounds, or nearly $150 million, to be wagered by the time the result is known in the early hours of Friday.

Baseball Handicapping Formula – How To Become Great at Baseball Handicapping

Part of being a good handicapper is promoting yourself as one. That is the easy part just about all handicappers claim to be the best.. You just start analyzing ball games and select your winners. Follow the game, use a proven baseball betting formula, there are many available. This formula must be battle tested. Baseball handicapping is not all based on skill. Baseball season is very long and there are many ups and downs for every team. I am a true believe that anyone can be the best baseball handicapper if they so desire. There is no government rating nor is there any real tracking system. My feelings on this are not one individual can be giving that title. Just what is a baseball handicapper? According to Wikipedia: Baseball Handicapping is the practice of assigning advantage through scoring compensation or other advantage given to different contestants to equalize the chances of winning. The only way to fully grade a handicappers picks is over the entire season.

I would define the best baseball handicapper a one who is truly knowledgeable on the sports. Don’t confuse being lucky for being good.

The best baseball handicappers in one who thoroughly follows the game, uses a proven system along with all those miscellaneous variables to determine their selections. Then there are the side variable such as weather conditions, disputes among the players sand mental state of the players. You might have a nice run for a week, start thinking you have the best system in the world then lose the next 10 games. A good handicapper will take all this information and plug into their handicapping formula.

The fact is anyone can claim to be good at baseball handicapping. For effective baseball handicapping you need to follow a formula. Luck has a lot to do with it. The only way to test a formula is to use through an entire baseball season. There is no license or certification required. Anyone can create a formula and start using it, but it has to be tested. A handicapper that just picks games without close examination is one that I would avoid. It is better to be lucky than be good, right. They must be up to date with all trades, injuries, trends and current statistics. Be consistent with your bets and use proper money management and you will the best baseball handicapper.

Now a proven winning formula is mandatory. Let’s make it simple and say that a baseball handicapper is a person that analyzes two baseball teams and attempt to picks the winner.

Now you are probably reading this article because you want to know who is best. Many get lucky but luck only happens occasional. Remember to distinguish the difference between just lucky and picking the right side

College Sports On The Internet

There’s no shortage of college sports in the United States. Some media players even allow schools to provide their fans with a variety of camera angles to choose from and allow for viewer participation with polls and surveys.

With these kinds of features as well as the ability to broadcast whatever sporting events they like, Universities may soon be giving fans their own virtual stadiums where seating is always front row and the weather is always clear.

Sports fans now have a more convenient way to watch sports and stay current with sports news. College sports are big business in the U.S. For example, College Sports Television which was the first 24-hour network devoted exclusively to collegiate athletics reaches more than 52 million homes nationwide.

For sports enthusiasts hoping to see the latest track and field or swimming event from their alma mater, the Internet provides a convenient way for not only watching these types of sporting events but also interacting with other fans, placing bets with sportsbooks, buying tickets or even customizing their viewing experiences. The Internet is providing sports enthusiasts with the means to stay informed and be entertained, in some cases, more than TV.

With so many people showing interest in college sports, football and basketball dominate the headlines, leaving other less popular sports, such as lacrosse and soccer, in the dust. The Internet is now becoming the new distribution platform for sports. With the ability to watch from anywhere and chat with others while watching, sports fans are going online more often to catch their favorite games.. At any given time on television, there’s likely to be some university playing another on the football field or basketball court. Colleges and Universities now have the opportunity to announce certain sporting events that hadn’t typically received as much exposure in the past. and they have the fan base to support it
